Where Ideas Come To Die
Weblog Comments
The general consensus is if your weblog doesn't have a RSS feed it might as well not exist, this is pretty much true. I have created RSS feeds for sites that don't have them so I can read them without a browser, I'm a sucker for NetNewsWire Lite.
Here's my new thought on this. I'm beginning to feel the same way about sites that don't have comments. I can't count the number of times I have wanted to comment on a story or a post and explicitly go to the page to leave a comment and see that they have no commenting system! How annoying. I then start a search for an email address but soon get lazy and stop looking.
Some sites I wont stop reading, like zeldman, but numerous others I have just given up on and have lost in the ether. It's sad too, there's so many good weblogs out there I don't read due to that.
On an unrelated note, the latest trend that's been going around the weblog circuit has been RSS feeds for comments(1, 2). In an effort to seem trendy and “on the ball” I have produced one, but here's the kicker. I've had mine running for a few months, I just haven't advertised it and have only given it out to a few close friends.
Props to Unsanity for doing a “fukkit™” and combining the commenting system with the normal RSS feed.
